How to resize an image to exact dimensions

Whether it's a 200×200 profile picture, a 600-pixel-wide blog image, or a passport photo at a specific size,
resizing an image is one of the most common little tasks online. Here's how to do it properly.
Width, height, and aspect ratio
Every image has an aspect ratio — the relationship between its width and height. A 4000×3000 photo has a
4:3 ratio. If you change the width and height in a way that doesn't match that ratio, the image gets stretched or
squashed and looks wrong.
That's why the safe default is to keep the aspect ratio: you set one dimension (say width = 800) and the
other is calculated automatically so the image stays perfectly proportioned.
Step by step
- Open the EasyLife File Converter
and pick the Resize image tab.
- Drop in your image.
- Enter a Width and/or Height in pixels. You can fill in just one and leave the other blank.
- Leave Keep aspect ratio ticked so the image isn't distorted (untick it only if you truly need an exact
non-proportional size).
- Click Convert & download.
Enlarging vs shrinking: making an image smaller almost always looks great. Making it much
bigger than the original can't add detail that isn't there, so it may look soft. Start from the highest-resolution
copy you have.
Common target sizes
- Profile picture / avatar: 200×200 or 400×400 (square).
- Blog / article image: 1200 pixels wide is a good modern default.
- Email signature logo: around 150–300 pixels wide.
- Social thumbnail: check the platform, but 1080×1080 is a safe square.
Resize, then compress
Resizing already reduces the file size a lot. If you still need to hit a specific limit (like "under 100 KB"),
run the result through the Compress tool afterwards.
